Domestic Violence Prevention will host our 12th Annual Antique/Classic Car & Motorcycle Show coming up April 10th with a rain date of April 17th here in Texarkana. The event will be held at Spring Lake Park in conjunction with the Caddo Area Boy Scouts Scout-O-Rama and Centennial Celebration. This is a huge fundraiser for Domestic Violence Prevention because it helps to support programs that we offer to clients that are not covered under grants.

This year we want to remember a special lady how helped us get the show started. Mary Brown and her husband Jim Brown were very instrumental in helping DVP get this event off the ground 12 years ago. Being car enthusiast themselves, they were able to offer suggestions and provide support to help make the show run smoothly. Mary passed away this year and we wanted to honor her by naming the car show in her memory.

Happy New Year to everyone! First we would like to thank everyone who supported the Gift Wrap Store this year at the mall. It was such a successful fundraiser and, as always, so much fun!

This year, Domestic Violence Prevention, Inc. is celebrating 30 years of service. We are planning many fun events to celebrate this milestone. Please stay tuned for more information on an upcoming dance-a-thon, antique/classic/custom car and motorcycle show, and casino night! It is going to be a great year and we look forward to celebrating it with you!

It is that time of year again! We are getting set to open our 16th Annual Gift Wrap Store at Central Mall. This is one of our 2 major fundraisers to help fill in the gaps other funding does not cover. This fundraiser is very important this year as we have seen a lot more clients this year than years past. Please help support the Gift Wrap Store by coming to get presents wrapped and volunteering to help out! Volunteering at the Gift Wrap Store is a great way to give back to your community and get into the Christmas spirit!

We would also like to thank the Psychology Club of Texas A&M for sponsoring the event. Lastly, we would like to thank Texas A&M and TCC for allowing us to hold the event out there and for supplying us with tables, chairs, and the sound system.

We have all seen from the news that domestic violence is still an issue that we are facing. It is our hope that as awareness is brought to the issue we will be able to decrease the chance of domestic violence occurring. Thank you to everyone who supports Domestic Violence Prevention! We know that we wouldn’t be able to operate as we do without the generous help of our community!

The candlelight vigil that was set for this evening will be re-scheduled due to rain to November 3rd from 6pm-7pm. The vigil will still be held at the TCC/A&M walking trail. The purpose of this vigil is to remember those who lost their lives as well as support our community members who are experiencing domestic violence. There will be light refreshments, music, and a testimony from a local survivor. It is our duty as individuals to help other members of the community in their time of need. Come out and show your support!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and as concerned citizens it is imperative that we recognize and respond to intimate partner violence in our communities. Domestic incidents have increased substantially this year, making it the right time for you to familiarze yourself with the problem and available solutions.

• Play titled “Living Behind the Mask” will be performed at the Perot theater on October 17th. Pre-show will be at 6:30pm. The show will start at 7:00pm.

Domestic Violence Prevention is participating in the Passion for Fashion shopping event at Central Mall in Texarkana, TX on Thursday, August 27th from 9pm-12am. Individuals wishing to participate in the event must purchase a ticket for $5 - which goes directly to the agency they buy the tickets from. There will be tickets available the night of the event to be purchased at the mall. Money collected through those purchases will be distributed between all agencies participating in the event. We will have a table set up at the mall this Saturday, August 22nd from 12pm-2pm. Please stop by, pick up some information, and purchase your ticket for this event. Individuals attending the event will receive a goodie bag full of coupons and samples, extra discounts at stores, a chance to win door prizes that will be drawn every 30 minutes, free food and refreshments!!!! This event is going to the so much fun so don’t miss out! Get your ticket and come enjoy the fun!

Domestic Violence Prevention will be hosting a volunteer training at the Hope, AR outreach office on Thursday, August 20th from 9am-5pm. This volunteer training is designed for individuals who are interested in volunteering with Domestic Violence Prevention in any capacity as well as learning about the dynamics of domestic violence.
