I have seen the increase...Being an Advocate I see alot of the victims in this area(bowie county). The victims have no age, race, gender or economical status. The rise in murder and murder suicide is also a big issue in DV. We need to ban together as communities to help prevent these things from happening. I know as well as anyone that we may not "stop" the violence but we can educate and be aware of the signs.

You are right batman. The only other thing is that Domestic Violence is a learned behavior and is only increased by those things. Drugs and alcohol  :P are also resons some abuse is worse than others. We need to reach out to more ppl to teach them about those signs and how to cope with them. Don't wait til it is too late and some one is hurt, in jail, or God forbid dead. Lets stand together to educate and prevent as much as we can.

I second that Sweatpea! It is our job as advocates of domestic violence prevention to help educate people in our community of the signs of domestic abuse, how to identify a batterer, and how to get out of a violent situation. The domestic deaths are up this year here in Texarkana as well as other places. A news report this morning revealed that the woman found stuffed in a suitcase had an issue with domestic violence with her husband. He is now a suspect in the murder (not sure if they have arrested him yet...I just caught part of the report). It is time we stand up for our rights to live a safe, violence free life!
